Be sure that all your entrance doors are also made out of solid wood or metal. If they aren’t sturdy enough, burglars can kick them in too easily. Hollow wooden outside doors need to be replaced.
Keep everything locked up. Burglars are resourceful and will use your own tools from your shed against you to gain entrance to your home. Be sure that you have strong locks for your garage and storage shed.
Don’t close yourself off from your neighbors. It’s natural for you to want privacy by allowing your trees and shrubs to block off your home from people on the street. The problem is that burglars often use these as hiding places, so set up your yard so you can clearly see around your property.
Keep an up to date inventory of your home items. This information can quickly tell you what items are missing if your home is broken in to. It will help you share the information with your home insurance company and the police quickly.
Finally, don’t forget to have a well-lit yard. Outdoor lighting should be placed at all the entrances to your home. You can use photosensitive lighting that will work as soon as it get dark, or motion detecting lights that can be triggered.
